Omura Pharmaceutical Group aims to contribute to the improvement of “One Health,” a comprehensive approach to preventing infectious diseases prevalent among humans and animals and maintaining the entire environment that supports all living things.

In our laboratory, we take interesting bioactive natural products discovered by the Omura Drug Discovery Group (Special Distinguished Professor Omura is the special coordinator) as lead compounds, and establish efficient total synthesis methods for the purpose of creating new drugs. Various analogs are synthesized using chemical conversion and Click Chemistry. Furthermore, we are actively pursuing joint research with universities and companies, including the Tokushima University Disease Enzymology Research Center and Brazil’s FIOCRUZ (the largest infectious disease research institute in South America). In addition, we hold study sessions for graduate and master’s degree students once a week for each academic year, with a designated instructor. In this study session, we will develop the basics of applied skills by firmly acquiring the basics of organic chemistry. In addition, we hold English conversation classes once a week with a foreign instructor (formerly working at WHO) to improve our English skills.

Students interested in total synthesis of natural products, drug discovery (pharmaceutical, animal drug, and agrochemical development), organic synthetic chemistry, and bioorganic chemistry (chemical biology) should contact Professor Sunazuka (sunazukatoshiaki(at)yahoo.co.jp).

Our laboratory is recruiting fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students starting in April of the new academic year.
